Choosing an air conditioning system is not an exact science and there are many types available which suit different environments, the type of business, regulatory obligations and user requirements. We can inspect your premises and recommend suitable models for you to consider based on your needs, preferences and budget.
Why is it important to choose the right air conditioning system?
Keeping your business premises well-ventilated and temperature controlled is important to ensure that you create an optimal work environment for your staff and your visitors (including customers). A well-regulated internal environment can help avoid the development of nasty allergies and related health conditions due to contagious airborne particles lingering in the air without any filtration, purification or regular recycling. This is especially important if your small business is handling food, operating in confined spaces, conducting health or beauty services, handling equipment or machinery or serving customers on a daily basis. The needs of each small and large business will vary, so make sure you choose the right commercial air conditioning system.
What types of commercial air conditioning systems are available?
There are many commercial air conditioning systems available in the market. It is important that you take the time to choose the right one because each unit requires a considerable capital outlay and needs to work effectively on a daily basis to support your business requirements. In addition, appropriate heating features are required so that the system is versatile all year round. Here are examples of popular commercial air conditioning systems, with the relevant features explained.
Water-Cooled
While this system is not as common, it tends to be used in business premises that has a water-cooled based system. You can leverage this existing plumbing and mechanical network by installing a few additional equipment modules to distribute chilled air throughout the premises. This unit cannot be used for heating purposes.
Ducted Split System
A ducted split system is the most common type of air conditioning unit for small and large businesses. Powered by both an internal air handler unit and external condenser unit, the system distributes cool air throughout the property based on where the ducts are installed. Depending on the size of the condenser, this unit can cool multiple rooms at once.
Ductless
Ductless systems are suitable for older properties because installing ducts can be costly and expensive. A ductless air conditioning system takes advantage of existing air handlers in the property and distributes air where they exist. Ductless units usually complement other air conditioning systems like single split systems.
VRF (Variable Refrigerant flow)
The variable refrigerant models are ideal for commercial properties. Businesses may require zones of the premises to be temperature controlled at different settings. With variable refrigerant, you can have one room set to a different temperature and another room set higher or lower. This model offers flexibility, simultaneous heating and cooling rooms while the inverter technology minimises energy consumption.
RTU (Rooftop Unit)
Installed on the roof of the commercial premises, the RTU is an all-in-one packaged system which offers a great heating and cooling solution. The guts of the unit are located on the roof which includes an evaporator, condenser, compressor, heat source, fan and intake. This unit can distribute cooled or heated air throughout the commercial premises.
Consider where to install commercial air conditioning system
Commercial air conditioning units are larger than the domestic or residential counterparts. They are bigger units given commercial properties are larger, are used regularly throughout the day, and have variable user requirements depending on the needs of individuals using, and the types of activities occurring in, different zones. Given the higher demand, the system is larger and needs to be accessed without delay or interruption in emergencies or for regular servicing.
That is why these units are usually placed on the roof of most commercial properties so that it is out of the way, avoids being vandalised, can be easily serviced and maintained, and parts can be replaced without much invasive procedures. This also takes advantage of unused space and means that you are freeing up vital space within your commercial property for profit-making activities.
